Zagora desert group

Zagora is a Berber town located in the Draa River valley in the Moroccan region of Drâa-Tafilalet. It is flanked by the mountain Zagora from which the town got its name. Originally it was called 'Tazagourt' which means 'twinpeaks' inBerber language, referring to the fortress of the Murabitun, or Almoravid, people. In old European maps the mountain Zagora is already indicated but the town itself was only built in the 20th century. On the base of the Zagora mountain the remains of an Almoravid fortress can still be seen. The exact location of the former Almoravid mosque is still a matter of dispute. Each year the moussem (festival) of the Sufi saint moulay Abdelkader Jilali is celebrated at Zagora. Languages spoken in the city include Moroccan Arabic, Tachelhit and Tamazight. A sign at the town border states "Tombouctou 52 days", the supposed time it takes to get to Timbuktu, Mali on foot or camel. During this trip, you will head to the heart of the Atlas Mountains on a 2-day excursion from Marrakech. Admire the scenery and visit fortresses such as Ait Ben Haddou. Enjoy a camel ride from Zagora to the desert camping site, where you’ll spend the night in a Berber tent.

trip program
Day 1
Once you got picked up from your hotel/Riad at 6h30, our driver is going to take you to the main office where you join the group. At around 7h30 the adventure begins; during the trip you are going to stop many times to see the wonderful landscapes of the atlas mountains but the biggest stop will be in Kasbah AIt-Ben Haddou near Ouarzazate where you are going to first meet our guide who is going to take you on a tour to explore the area. After that he will take you to a restaurant where you are going to have lunch. After lunch, another adventure starts to get to Zagora with a few stops on the way this time. Once you arrive to Zagora our camels are already waiting for you to take you to the tent where you are going to spend the night with the show and diner
Make sure you have a small backpack with you and some warm clothes, it might be cold there at night.
Day 2
Early at 6h00, after having a quick breakfast another camel ride is waiting for to take you back to the car admiring the sunrise. With many stops again on the way to Marrakech you will stop at midday in the city of Ouarzazate where a guide is waiting for you to show you the city especially Kasbat Taourirt or the Cinema Studio where most of the big movies were shot (this depends on the availability of time). The arrival to Marrakech will be around 19h30.
